The ISF1-Z incubator shaker is available in four different models: ISF1-Z, ISF1-Z EcoDew, ISF1-Z Peltier and ISF1-Z Compressor. Each model provides distinct features and is additionally available with CO2 control for cell culture processes.
The ISF1-Z is the basic version of Kuhners stackable incubator shaker with temperature control (heating).
The ISF1-Z EcoDew® includes temperature control (heating) and Kuhners EcoDew® technology for humidity control. No cooling compressor unit is required for the precise and eco-friendly EcoDew® technology.
The ISF1-Z Compressor has a specially large temperature range and can quickly cool and heat up. It was designed with the environment in mind. The incubator shaker contains two cooling units operated with natural gas. This eco-friendly concept optimizes the energy consumption of the shaking incubator and provides more process reliability.
The innovative ISF1-Z Peltier uses long life peltier elements for precise heating and cooling and also for humidity control. This eco-friendly concept makes coolants or compressors unnecessary. The humidity control of the ISF1-Z Peltier is able to humidify and dehumidify up to 50% compared with the ambient relative humidity.
New: In response to customer requests, the Peltier series has been expanded. Now, the ISF1-Z Peltier is also available without humidity control.
The ISF1-Z is available in a 100% stainless steel finish. It can either be painted white or have a processed stainless steel look. Take a look at the video to see the advantages of having stainless steel inside and outside the shaker.
The improved maintenance-free direct drive of the ISF1-Z is stronger, offers higher shaking frequencies and has a longer lifespan than ever. It guarantees accurate control and low energy consumption/heat dissipation even at high speeds. Kuhner’s direct drive system and the newly designed shaking table allows the shaking diameter to be changed at any time – quickly and easily. Different fixed shaking diameters (3, 6, 9, 12.5, 19, 25, 50, 70 mm) are adjustable. And even a stepless adjustment is available as an option.

The ISF1-Z is made of stainless steel inside and outside for easy and fast cleaning. The hygienic design complies with GMP requirements. The interior was designed according to DIN EN ISO 14159. It has rounded corners and a drain at the back for quick removal of any unwanted liquids. The direct drive system is completely covered and therefore protected from spills. The incubator chamber can be cleaned with chemicals or sterilized using optional UV lighting.

Up to three ISF1-Z incubators can be stacked providing more shaking capacity without taking up more floor space in the lab. Stacking is a simple procedure without the need for special tools or stacking kits. Each machine operates independently. The ISF1-Z incubator shakers are mixable in stack with ISF1-X/W incubators.
Numerous options and accessories are available for
the ISF1-Z incubator shaker to fulfill any need of our customers regarding
cultivations in shaken bioreactors. Moreover, all accessories are interchangeable between the new ISF1-Z incubators
and its predecessors ISF1-X/W. The ISF1-Z offers even more interior space than
its predecessor ISF1-X, e.g. to accommodate particularly big shake flasks. The
ISF1-Z has clearly arranged displays on the front side (e.g. for shaking speed)
with color change and an acoustic signal when an error/alarm occurs.
Additionally,
a fix or a tilting touchscreen version with our Kuhner Insight software is
available. Serial interfaces (e.g. CAN) are arranged on the front side and the
sensors in the inside are also easily accessible for a fast and comfortable
work flow. The interior LED light is a color neutral light with low energy
dissipation.

Humidity control is an important factor in successful fermentation. Evaporation from microtiter plates, or when cultivating in flasks for long periods (e.g. cell cultures), can be significantly reduced with humidification.
To reduce evaporation from shake flasks or microtiter plates a water bath is placed inside the incubator. This water bath is fitted with an automatic water supply.

This combination is recommended for users of 96 deep-well microtiter plates with high filling volumes. The table is specially designed for up to 20 microtiter plates, and it is also suitable for the Duetz system. The shaking diameter is user-adjustable to any other standard configurations of 3, 6, 9, 12.5, 19, 25, 50, and 70mm. It runs smoothly and quietly and can be stacked up to three machines high. There are special technical add-ons that ensure uniform temperature distribution in the incubator chamber. It comes with our standard 5-year standard warranty guaranteeing quality and durability.

As in a biological safety cabinet, the chamber of a Kuhner incubator shaker can also be sterilized with an integrated UV lamp. The lamp is situated to maximise irradiation of the chamber and shaking table. The UV lamp has a clearly marked external switch and when the door is opened, the UV-lighting is automatically switched off.
Available for light sensitive medium or organisms. Any Kuhner incubator shaker can be delivered with blackened windows to prevent unwanted daylight or UV radiation inside the incubator.

The ISF1-Z incubator shaker with automatic door is designed for easy handling and maximum comfort. The automatic door is activated by pressing a button on the incubator shaker. A foot switch option is also available.
Labelling plates are now available for the ISF1-Z foot switch that is used with the automatic door option. For a stack of 2x or 3x ISF1-Z incubator shakers with the automatic door feature, these labelling plates will allow the user to easily identify which foot pedal corresponds to each machine.
This option includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen with our Kuhner Insight Software. The touchscreen has been designed for simple operation, monitoring and programming. It can also be retrofitted to existing incubator shakers. More.
The pull-out table is designed for the ISF4-X and ISF1-Z incubator shakers as well as the Rack System. This remarkable device makes loading and unloading trays much easier.
The dual table is an easy and economical way of doubling the shaking capacity. The dual shaking table consists of two levels. Each level will accept an E (420 x 420 mm), EX (500 x 420 mm) or F (800 x 420 mm) size tray.
The lower level of the dual table is the standard Z-table or a pull-out table. Combining the pull-out feature (only for the lower platform) with the dual-level function allows faster access to the bottom level for easy handling and better ergonomics.
The distance between the two levels of the dual table is user-adjustable; the maximal distance between the two levels is 200 mm. At this distance the lower level accepts 125 mL, 250 mL, and 500 mL Erlenmeyer shake flasks. If required, the user can also easily remove the upper level completely to use the incubator shaker for flasks or vessels taller than 500 mL Erlenmeyer flasks.
However, with the dual table the shaking speed is limited to 200 rpm at a shaking diameter of 50 mm, 250 rpm at 25 mm, and 300 rpm at 12.5 mm (all other maximum shaking frequencies, dependent on the shaking diameter, can be withdrawn from the ISF1-Z manual).
Do you perform screenings with a large number of 50 ml bioreactors (TPP, Falcon etc.) or microtiter plates? Would you like to shake different cultivation vessels on the same shaker and be able to change the composition quickly and easily? Then the Kuhner EPFL-table is the optimal solution for you. The shaker table has 5 individual clamps, so that 5 different holders or EPFL universal trays can be clamped. By opening a clamp, a single holder or universal tray can be easily removed from the incubator shaker and processed under a clean bench while the remaining holders/trays keep on shaking.
The EPFL universal tray can be equipped with clamps for Erlenmeyer flasks, Schott laboratory bottles, test tube holders, microtiter plates or customer-specific holders. Rearrangement of these clamps and holders is quick and easy. The universal tray can also be equipped with sticky strips. Sticky strips are used to fix shake flasks or other equipment on shaking trays. They offer easy handling and flexible positioning of different sizes and shapes of shake flasks and other vessels.
Special holders for microtiter plates, 50 mL centrifuge tubes (Falcons) and 600 mL reaction vessels are also available for the EPFL-table.
Instead of 5 individual holders, a large Kuhner F-tray (800 x 420mm) can also be clamped onto the shaker table.
For the smaller (incubator) shakers from Kuhner, correspondingly adapted EPFL-tables with 3 or 4 clamps are available (LT-X: 3 clamps, LS-Z: 3 or 4 clamps).

Kuhner TOM (Transfer-Rate Online
Measurement) measures online oxygen transfer rate (OTR), carbon dioxide
transfer rate (CTR) and the respiratory quotient (RQ) in up to 16 individual
shake flasks for better process understanding and informed process development.
TOM is easily installed in any Kuhner shaker and can be operated with various
flask types and sizes including single use shake flasks. Kuhner TOM has zero
footprint on the shaker tray as it is mounted above (see picture below). More.
AerationSystem and FlowCon provide the ideal system for carrying out cell/stem cell cultivations in a simple, fast, and inexpensive manner.
Lab shakers in
temperature-controlled rooms and incubator shakers without humidity and CO2-control
can be equipped with the AerationSystem and FlowCon to easily implement humidification and a controlled
gas composition for carrying out cell cultivations (e.g., CHO, HEK cells…) in
shake flasks.
The FlowCon is a stand-alone gas mixing device and provides a precise gas composition and flow rate. Simultaneously, the AerationSystem (consisting of GasDivider and special shake flask caps) humidifies and distributes the gas flow evenly to the connected shake flasks. Evaporation losses from the shake flasks are significantly reduced, which is particularly advantageous for very long cultivation times (such as cell culture processes) and contributes to successful cultivations. Another advantage is that opening the incubator door does not affect the gas composition in the shake flasks when they are connected to the aeration system.
By controlling the composition of the inlet air with the FlowCon, it is not only possible to supplement CO2 but also to increase or reduce the concentration of oxygen (O2) or implement anoxic conditions using nitrogen (N2). This control of gas compositions allows for a variety of different applications, including stem cell processes for gene therapy or cultivated meat that require a physiological oxygen concentration at 5% O2 or anaerobic cultivations in a nitrogen atmosphere.
The patented Kuhner GasDivider humidifies the mixed, dry gas flow provided by the FlowCon and distributes it precisely and evenly across the attached shake flasks, independent of shake flask type, tube length and any filters in-between. As the GasDivider is placed on the shaking tray of the (incubator) shaker, the gas flow is also perfectly adapted to the temperature of the incubator shaker or temperature-controlled room.
To prevent accidental operation of the controllers, the panel can be protected by a perspex cover.
Kuhner CleanShield is a disposable inlay for the newly designed water bath-Z. The CleanShield simplifies the cleaning process, saves users’ time, and provides a clean environment in our shaker incubators. The open water bath has been designed to allow a quick replacement of the CleanShield and a good visual inspection. Both aspects contribute to a safe and reliable performance of the conducted cultivations. The process of changing the sterile Kuhner CleanShield inlays takes just five minutes and cultivation can resume immediately after. Harsh cleaning agents might leave residues or vapors in the incubator that could negatively impact your cultures. The CleanShield eliminates this risk and protects the water bath which results in less maintenance and an increased lifetime of the shaker incubator.

The standard water bath-Z can be converted to a water bath-Z for Kuhner CleanShield, by using the retrofit set 104488.
IQ-OQ (Installation Qualification and Operation Qualification) is an equipment qualification according to GMP procedure. Kuhner offers this service which can also be carried out at the customer’s premises.

A special F-size universal tray (800x420mm) is now available to shake large Erlenmeyer flasks. It is ideal for cell culture.
This tray allows parallel shaking of 7 x 3L Corning Fernbach culture flasks or 7 x 5L Thomson Optimum Growth flasks at a maximum orbital diameter of 50mm. The FUM-V has no handles and a V support underneath the tray raises it above the clamping mechanism creating more space for flasks.

Kuhner has designed trays specifically for microtiter plates. Handles at the front of the tray open and close the special clamping mechanism allowing plates to be loaded and unloaded. Trays of different heights (22, 47 and 77mm) allow the stacking of up to four microtiter plates. The trays are available in three sizes and suitable for all types of plates (deep well, low well, 24, 48 and 96 well).

Kuhner has designed a new F-size tray (800 x 420mm) which is ideal for cell culture. The F-V5000/7 tray allows parallel shaking of 7 x 3L Corning Fernbach culture flasks, 7 x 5L Corning Erlenmeyer flasks or 7 x 5L Thomson Optimum Growth flasks. Flasks are held in position by pins and are easily placed on the tray and removed just as quickly.

A tray fitted with sticky strips is especially useful for flasks shaken at low speeds (up to 200rpm). The flask is placed directly on the sticky strip without the need for any other support. Flasks of all sizes can be used. Sticky strips are available individually or in sets and can also be supplied already fitted to a tray. The E-size tray accepts four strips, while the EX-size tray requires five strips and the F-size tray eight strips.

This tray offers an alternative to both clamps and sticky mats and is ideal for tall containers. The tray is covered with a rubber mat and has an upright at each corner. The F-tray is fitted with six cross supports. These support bars securely clamp containers.

This tray was developed for shaking (orbital or linear) different types of 2D-bag. The tray consists of an aluminium base with a flexible mounting system on top.The mounting system can be manually adjusted to facilitate the controlled fixing of different sized cultivation bags. The mounting bars on both longitudinal sides can be moved up and down to hold the cultivation bag in place, while rubber bands will secure the smaller blood and cryo bags. The pin-clamps are ideal for cleanrooms and areas where sticky mats or other standard clamps are not suitable. The clamps have been designed for easy cleaning and efficient handling of samples. To reduce evaporation from shake flasks or microtiter plates a water bath can be placed inside the incubator. This water bath is not fitted with an automatic water supply and must be topped up manually.

Kuhner has designed a new light shade plate for the ISF1-Z incubator. This plate is easily placed in front of the door window to prevent radiation affecting the contents of the incubator chamber. It protects light sensitive media from UV, artificial and/or daylight.
Simply lift up the light shade plate to look at the cultures without opening the incubator door. When light protection is no longer required, the plate is easily removed.

You have a low ceiling or low hanging ceiling lamps in your laboratory but want to fit an ISF1-Z triple stack in the room?
With a door opening limiter for the upper shaker (order n° 108602), the maximum height of an ISF1-Z triple stack can be reduced by about 8 cm (from 2536 mm to 2457 mm). The installation of two small spacers into the door hinges reduces the height of the opened door noticeable but without constraining the access to the incubator chamber.
A further reduction of the maximum height is also possible on customer request. Please feel free to contact us via office@kuhner.com.
