incubator shaker Kuhner Kelvin+
combines approved Kuhner quality and technology with a very compact footprint. It
is the perfect starter model, e.g., for universities or start-ups. The Kuhner
Kelvin+ is applicable for the cultivation of microbial,
plant, human and animal cell cultures. The incubator shaker can be equipped
with the AerationSystem to
provide a humidity and CO2 controlled environment for cell
cultivations. It can also be combined with the Kuhner TOM system
for the online measurement of oxygen transfer rate (OTR), carbon dioxide
transfer rate (CTR) and respiratory quotient (RQ) in shake flasks to provide a
better process understanding and guarantee an informed process development.

To take up as little work space as possible in your lab, the Kuhner Kelvin+ has a very small footprint and can thus either be placed under any standard table or lab bench or be used as a benchtop device. The compact incubator shaker has a flat front and a space saving door mechanism. The open door disappears completely into the device, allowing easy access to the shaken cultures. The big window provides a good overview of your cultivation vessels even with the door closed.
The Kuhner Kelvin+ incorporates the shaker unit of the Kuhner lab-shaker LS-Z. The in-house designed magnetic drive system of the LS-Z shaker guarantees accurate control and low energy consumption/heat dissipation even at high speeds. The maintenance-free direct drive is long lasting, robust, and economical. The LS-Z shaker unit will accept loads up to 25 kg and the shaking diameter can be adjusted at any time. There are three standard shaking diameters (12.5, 25 and 50 mm) with others available on request.
The Kuhner Kelvin+ incubator hood has a precise temperature control and comes with a very consistent temperature distribution – for reliable and reproducible cultivation processes.
The drive is protected from spills and the incubator hood can be easily dismounted for cleaning the whole surface or for removal of any unwanted liquid. The incubator chamber can be cleaned with chemicals or sterilized.
As with all Kuhner products, the Kuhner Kelvin+ is cost effective investment in quality backed with a five-year warranty.

The light shading plate is easily placed in front of the door window to prevent radiation affecting the contents of the incubator chamber. It protects light sensitive media from UV, artificial and/or daylight. Simply lift up the light shading plate to look at the cultures without opening the incubator door. When light protection is no longer required, the plate is easily removed.

LS-Z and Kuhner Kelvin+
can be combined with Kuhner TOM (Transfer-Rate Online Measurement) for the
online measurement of oxygen transfer rate (OTR), carbon dioxide transfer rate
(CTR) and the respiratory quotient (RQ) in up to 16 individual shake flasks.
These data provide a better process understanding and guarantee an informed
process development. TOM is easily installed and can be operated with various
flask types and sizes including single use shake flasks. Kuhner TOM has zero
footprint on the shaker tray as it is mounted above. More.
AerationSystem and FlowCon provide the ideal system for carrying out cell/stem cell cultivations in a simple, fast, and inexpensive manner.
Lab shakers in
temperature-controlled rooms and incubator shakers without humidity and CO2-control
can be equipped with the AerationSystem and FlowCon to easily implement humidification and a controlled
gas composition for carrying out cell cultivations (e.g., CHO, HEK cells…) in
shake flasks.
The FlowCon is a stand-alone gas mixing device and provides a precise gas composition and flow rate. Simultaneously, the AerationSystem (consisting of GasDivider and special shake flask caps) humidifies and distributes the gas flow evenly to the connected shake flasks. Evaporation losses from the shake flasks are significantly reduced, which is particularly advantageous for very long cultivation times (such as cell culture processes) and contributes to successful cultivations. Another advantage is that opening the incubator door does not affect the gas composition in the shake flasks when they are connected to the aeration system.
By controlling the composition of the inlet air with the FlowCon, it is not only possible to supplement CO2 but also to increase or reduce the concentration of oxygen (O2) or implement anoxic conditions using nitrogen (N2). This control of gas compositions allows for a variety of different applications, including stem cell processes for gene therapy or cultivated meat that require a physiological oxygen concentration at 5% O2 or anaerobic cultivations in a nitrogen atmosphere.
The patented Kuhner GasDivider humidifies the mixed, dry gas flow provided by the FlowCon and distributes it precisely and evenly across the attached shake flasks, independent of shake flask type, tube length and any filters in-between. As the GasDivider is placed on the shaking tray of the (incubator) shaker, the gas flow is also perfectly adapted to the temperature of the incubator shaker or temperature-controlled room.
IQ-OQ (Installation Qualification and Operation Qualification) is an equipment qualification according to GMP procedure. Kuhner offers this service which can also be carried out at the customer’s premises.
Microtiter trays are suitable for all types of plates (deep well, low well, 24, 48 and 96 well).
The universal tray can be fitted with clamps for Erlenmeyer flasks, test tube holders, microtiter plates, or custom made holders to suit your requirements. Rearranging these clamps and holders is quick and simple.

Kuhner has designed trays specifically for microtiter plates. Handles at the front of the tray open and close the special clamping mechanism allowing plates to be loaded and unloaded. Trays of different heights (22, 47 and 77mm) allow the stacking of up to four microtiter plates. The trays are suitable for all types of plates (deep well, low well, 24, 48 and 96 well).

Kuhner has designed a new tray for microtiter plates. This tray is fitted with springs which allows each well plate to be loaded and unloaded individually.

These trays offer an alternative to both clamps and sticky mats and are ideal for tall containers. The tray is covered with a rubber mat and has an upright at each corner. The E size tray is fitted with four cross supports. These support bars securely clamp containers.

Kuhner has also designed a special tray for shaking separating vessels. This very flexible tray can take vessels of various sizes. It is also possible to add a second layer and double the capacity. Movable retaining rods allow vessels to be installed easily.

The pin-clamps are ideal for cleanrooms and areas where sticky mats or other standard clamps are not suitable. The clamps have been designed for easy cleaning and efficient handling of samples. The stainless-steel pin-clamps are compatible with all Kuhner universal trays. The shaking speed is limited to a maximum of 180 rpm at 50 mm shaking diameter.
