ISF1-Z Basic Beluga incubator shaker with 50% more headspace and therefore the perfect fit for automation

The newly offered ISF1-Z Basic Beluga emerged from a customized project and was specifically designed for automation and robotic systems. A robot arm can reach into the chamber with its generous interior space and grab any vessel from the tray.

The incubator shaker also includes the two options automatic door and the newly developed Kuhner Tray Positioning System (Kuhner TPS+) which are essential for robotic applications. The ISF1-Z Basic Beluga can be integrated into many areas of automation, such as screening for an optimal cell line, for media development or analytical applications.

Tray Positioning SystemTPS +

Stop at defined position

One key feature for the integration of incubator shakers into automated bioprocesses is a reliable exact stop position of the shaking table. Kuhner shakers can stop at any of 48 possible positions, which can be programmed on the MMI display or Kuhner Insight software. This feature is standard for our Kuhner direct drive. This Tray Positioning System (TPS) is based on a magnetic lock-in and requires no maintenance. The ISF1-Z Basic Beluga contains the advanced Tray Positioning System TPS+ which is similar to the standard TPS, but one of the 48 positions is an exact stop and has an alarm function in case anything is misaligned. This is crucial for automated/robotic applications.

Stay connected

Independently of the bus system your monitoring system applies, our flexible NET-60 interface connects all conventional bus systems to the Kuhner shaker internal CAN-bus. You can find more information about the interfaces in our Kuhner Technology section.


Special connectivity features

Additional input and output signals

In addition to the standard interfaces, the Beluga has been expanded by optocoupler modules. This allows for an increased number of input and output signals, enabling significantly more specific interactions. A modified D-Sub connector on the back of the shaking incubator is available for this purpose. With the additional input and output signals, user safety in handling the automated system is increased.

The improved maintenance-free direct drive of the ISF1-Z series is stronger, offers higher shaking frequencies and has a longer lifespan than ever. It guarantees accurate control and low energy consumption/heat dissipation even at high speeds. Kuhner’s direct drive system and the newly designed shaking table allows the shaking diameter to be changed at any time – quickly and easily. Different fixed shaking diameters (3, 6, 9, 12.5, 19, 25, 50, 70 mm) are adjustable. And even a stepless adjustment is available as an option.

We subject all our shaking machines to an elaborate final test before delivery and send the test protocols to our customers. All ISF1-Z Basic Beluga components are designed for durability and reliability. A Kuhner shaker is a cost-effective investment in quality backed with a five-year warranty.

Special universal tray

A special F-size universal tray (800x420mm) is now available to shake large Erlenmeyer flasks. It is ideal for cell culture.

This tray allows parallel shaking of 7 x 3L Corning Fernbach culture flasks or 7 x 5L Thomson Optimum Growth flasks at a maximum orbital diameter of 50mm. The FUM-V has no handles and a V support underneath the tray raises it above the clamping mechanism creating more space for flasks.

Tray with pins

Kuhner has designed a new F-size tray (800 x 420mm) which is ideal for cell culture. The F-V5000/7 tray allows parallel shaking of 7 x 3L Corning Fernbach culture flasks, 7 x 5L Corning Erlenmeyer flasks or 7 x 5L Thomson Optimum Growth flasks. Flasks are held in position by pins and are easily placed on the tray and removed just as quickly.

This tray has been designed for easy cleaning and efficient handling of samples.

Tray with sticky strips

A tray fitted with sticky strips is especially useful for flasks shaken at low speeds (up to 200rpm). The flask is placed directly on the sticky strip without the need for any other support. Flasks of all sizes can be used. Sticky strips are available individually or in sets and can also be supplied already fitted to a tray. The E-size tray accepts four strips, while the EX-size tray requires five strips and the F-size tray eight strips.

This tray was developed for shaking (orbital or linear) different types of 2D-bag. The tray consists of an aluminium base with a flexible mounting system on top.The mounting system can be manually adjusted to facilitate the controlled fixing of different sized cultivation bags. The mounting bars on both longitudinal sides can be moved up and down to hold the cultivation bag in place, while rubber bands will secure the smaller blood and cryo bags. Light shade plate

Kuhner has designed a new light shade plate for the ISF1-Z incubator. This plate is easily placed in front of the door window to prevent radiation affecting the contents of the incubator chamber. It protects light sensitive media from UV, artificial and/or daylight.

Simply lift up the light shade plate to look at the cultures without opening the incubator door. When light protection is no longer required, the plate is easily removed.
