Although shaken bioreactors have been applied for decades in important fields such as screening for better production strains, media optimization, pre-cultivation etc., the knowledge on the correlation between cultivation conditions and certain process parameters is often limited.
As a result, questions such as the following may come up:

• The scale-up of my bioprocess from shake flask to stirred tank bioreactor vessel is not successful. Why?

• How do baffles, volume, shaking diameter, stopper, well geometry … influence my culture

• My results gained in shaken bioreactors are not reproducible. Why?

• How should I shake my microtiter plate?

• How can I simulate a large-scale fed-batch process in small-scale?

• How should I shake my cell culture?

During the advanced seminar, many examples and scientific data addressing the above questions will be presented. The attendees will learn how to use shake flasks / microtiter plates in such a way that poor cultivation conditions are avoided. Thus, the seminar will lead to a higher reproducibility of experimental data, to a more successful scale-up into the stirred bioreactor and to optimized screening conditions.
